A sports podiatrist who loves fashion has spent ten years researching the causes of foot pain associated with high heels. She said that her wedding day was a major breakthrough for her.
Emily Smith from Sydney, Australia felt pain after wearing stilettos all day.
She could not walk, but the pain prompted her to make an insole to make wearing high heels more comfortable.
Ms. Smith told FEMAIL: "I found that the muscles that stabilize the ankle are fatigued to the point of failure."
"From there I worked backwards and was able to make sure that when you wear high heels, your feet will naturally roll outwards instead of inwards."

The day after the wedding, when she couldn't walk in high heels for several hours, she suddenly thought of a solution to wear high heels comfortably.
Emily Braidwood Medigel insoles are available in high heels and flat shoes, priced at $49.95.
Ms. Smith became interested in foot pain associated with high heels when she was studying at Western Sydney University.
She completed her final year's paper on this topic in 2005, but could not find any new evidence on how to reduce the pain caused by high heels.
Subsequently, Ms. Smith started working as a podiatrist in Mosman, a suburb of northern Sydney. For more than 10 years, countless women have complained of sore feet.
She understands their love for fashionable shoes, so she doesn't want to tell them to give up high heels altogether, and instead choose more ergonomic and out-of-date shoes.
She said: "I never said you need to wear these grandma shoes."
"I will never wear them, so I don't expect my patients to wear them too.
Ms. Smith's research and 2010 wedding led her to design Emily Braidwood Medigel insoles for high heels and flat shoes.
The science-based high-heeled shoe "footbed" cushions the foot while providing muscle support to prevent the ankle from rolling and the sole of the foot from burning.

For sports podiatrists, this product idea is unlikely to be an adventure, but Ms. Smith said that science "crossed a lot."
She said: "Like a sports injury, it all boils down to muscle fatigue and burn out very quickly."
